UNDERSTANDING GLASS PROTECTION
What Is Safety Window Film?
Safety window film is a transparent, adhesive film applied to existing glass. When glass breaks, the film is designed to help retain fragments and reduce the risk of loose shards falling away immediately.
It can be a practical way to improve the behaviour of suitable existing glazing without replacing every window. The correct film depends on the glass, the type of risk and the level of protection required.
An important distinction
Safety film is not unbreakable glass, and ordinary safety film should not be described as bulletproof or guaranteed to prevent a break-in. Protection depends on the film, installation method, glass and frame.
CHOOSE YOUR LEVEL
Which Safety Window Film Do You Need?
All three films are clear, discreet and designed to retain their appearance. The main difference is their thickness and mechanical performance. A thicker film is not automatically suitable for every type of glass or every security requirement.
The applications above are general guidance, not a guarantee of suitability. Safety classifications and performance depend on the specific film, glass configuration, frame, installation and test conditions.

The thinnest option, with the highest light transmission of the three.
More than double the listed break strength of 4 mil, at 180 lb/inch.
The highest listed break strength of the three, at 336 lb/inch.
Specifications are taken from the supplied product datasheets and their stated 3 mm single-glass optical test conditions. Safety standards shown are those listed on the respective sheets; they should not be interpreted as identical certifications across all three films.
HOW IT WORKS
Glass Can Break. The Film Helps Hold It Together.
Safety film adheres to the glass surface. If the glass breaks, the film can help retain the fragments instead of allowing them to fall away immediately.
A clear protective layer
The film is professionally applied to suitable existing glass.
Glass may still break
The film does not make ordinary glass unbreakable.
Fragments can remain attached
The film helps hold broken pieces together, depending on the impact and the glazing system.
Why installation matters
The film, glass, frame and attachment method work as a system. Where a project requires the film to remain attached to the frame after breakage, a suitable edge-attachment system may be necessary. Ask us to assess your glass and requirements.
FOR YOUR HOME
Extra Glass Protection for Everyday Living
Homes in Southern Spain often feature large windows, patio doors and expansive glazed areas. Safety film can be considered where the aim is to improve how suitable glass behaves if it breaks.
Consider protection for frequently used glazed access points.
Discuss suitable film for glass near living areas and walkways.
Ask for an assessment of the glass type, location and applicable safety requirements.
FOR BUSINESS & COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES
Professional Glass Protection for Workplaces
Glass is widely used in modern offices, retail spaces, reception areas and commercial buildings. Safety window film may be suitable for improving fragment retention or meeting a specified glazing requirement, following a professional assessment.
Office windows
Consider clear film for suitable existing glazing.
Shopfronts
Discuss the appropriate film and installation method for the intended risk.
Commercial doors
Review glass type, access points and safety requirements.
Large glazed areas
Assess the whole glazing system before selecting a specification.

GET A 12 MIL QUOTEHow do you calculate the price?
Measure the glass width and height in metres. Multiply the width by the height to calculate the area of each pane in square metres. Add the areas of the panes you want treated.
Example: 2.0 m wide × 1.5 m high = 3 m²
For 3 m², the indicative installed price would be €417 for 4 mil, €837 for 7 mil, or €1,197 for 12 mil.
Final quotations are subject to checking measurements, the glass and frame, suitability of the selected film and installation requirements.

Safety Window Film FAQs
Understand the options before choosing a film for your home or business.
What is the difference between 4 mil, 7 mil and 12 mil safety film?
The films differ in thickness and mechanical performance. The datasheets list break strengths of 112 lb/inch for 4 mil, 180 lb/inch for 7 mil and 336 lb/inch for 12 mil. The right choice depends on your glass, the intended risk and the required performance.
Does safety film stop glass from breaking?
No. Safety film does not make ordinary glass unbreakable. It is designed to help hold fragments together if the glass breaks. The result depends on the film, impact, glass, frame and installation method.
Is safety window film bulletproof?
No. These products should not be advertised as bulletproof. If you require ballistic protection, you need a glazing system specifically tested and rated for the relevant ballistic threat.
Does safety film make breaking into a property impossible?
No. Some film and glazing combinations may delay certain forms of forced entry, but no such guarantee should be assumed from film thickness alone. The complete glass, frame, attachment and locking system must be assessed for the intended security level.
Will safety film make my windows darker?
These are clear films. Under the datasheets' stated test conditions, visible light transmission is 89% for 4 mil, 88% for 7 mil and 87% for 12 mil. The appearance in your property can vary with the existing glass.
How much UV protection do the films provide?
The supplied datasheets list 97% UV block for 4 mil and 99% for both 7 mil and 12 mil. UV protection can help reduce UV exposure through the treated glazing, but it does not eliminate all causes of fading.
Does the price include VAT and installation?
Yes. The listed prices are €139/m² for 4 mil, €279/m² for 7 mil and €399/m² for 12 mil. VAT and professional installation are included. Contact us for a quotation based on your measurements and glass assessment.
Can safety film be installed on double glazing?
Suitability depends on the glass construction, coatings, dimensions and installation conditions. The supplied optical figures are stated for 3 mm single glass, so they should not automatically be treated as measured performance figures for double glazing. Ask us to assess your specific windows.
What does EN 356 P2A mean for the 12 mil film?
EN 356 P2A is a classification associated with resistance to manual attack on glazing. The 12 mil datasheet lists this standard. The classification applies to the tested configuration; it should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every installation will achieve the same result. Ask us about the complete system and your project's requirements.
Where do you install safety window film?
